The Purdue Club of Washington DC is pleased to recognize Ms. Lauren Jackson and Ms. Jessica Price for its ninth annual scholarship award. To date, the Alumni Club has handed out over $7,800 in scholarship grants. Both students will be entering Purdue this Fall, 2011.
Lauren Jackson received a $1,000 Scholarship Award which will be applied during her Freshman year in pursuit of a Pharmacy Degree. Lauren is currently a Senior at Loudon County High School in Leesburg , Virginia . She is the daughter of Dwayne and Barbara Jackson of Leesburg , Virginia .
The Purdue Scholarship Committee selected Lauren for her numerous academic achievements that includes posting academics honors with the National and Spanish Honors Societies and at least a 4.0 in all four years of school. She is involved with different aspects of high school and her community including Track and Field, Future Educators Association, and has devoted numerous hours to volunteering for Megan’s Walk for Cystic Fibrosis and a local senior home.
Lauren is looking forward to being challenged at Purdue and intends to become “the best pharmacist … at one of the best pharmacy programs in the nation” and can’t wait until she ‘bleeds gold and black’.
Jessica Place received the club’s $500 Scholarship Award which will be applied towards her Mechanical Engineering degree. Jessica is currently a Senior at Langley High School in McLean VA and the daughter of Richard and Debra Place of McLean , Virginia .
Jessica was recognized for her leadership accomplishments and impressive academic achievements. She has been involved with NASA’s Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars, National Honor Society, and Leadership Honor Society. She’s able to do this while managing a busy extracurricular schedule including leading her local Habitat for Humanity chapter and being a program ambassador of the NASA Scholar program.
Jessica is looking forward to benefiting from Purdue’s exceptional Women in Engineering program which provides mentor support for females in their nationally-recognized program. Additionally, she was “very impressed by the school spirit all over campus”!
