2009 Scholarship Winners

May 22, 2009

The Purdue Club of Washington DC is pleased to recognize Ms. Ashley Eidsmore and Ms. Colleen Everett for its seventh annual scholarship award.  Both students will be entering Purdue this Fall, 2009.

Ashley Eidsmore received a $750 Scholarship Award, which will be applied during her Freshman year in pursuit of a Mechanical Engineering Degree.  Ashley is currently a Senior at Science and Math Academy in Aberdeen, Maryland.  She is the daughter of Alison and Alan Eidsmore of Havre de Grace, MD.

The Purdue Scholarship Committee selected Ashley for her numerous academic achievements that includes having a GPA in the top 1% of her class and the National Honors Society. She is also very active in dance competition, her school’s band, tutoring other students, and garnering several awards from the FIRST Robotics club. Ashley also finds time volunteering for the Relay for Life and Camp Merrick for the Blind.

Ashley is looking forward to being in the “Women in Engineering” Club and taking advantage of the numerous art and music club opportunities while on campus.

Colleen Everett received the club’s $500 Scholarship Award, which will be applied towards either a Communications (Physiology) and/or Biology degree. Colleen is currently a Senior at Gaithersburg High School in Gaithersburg MD and is the daughter of Cynthia and John Everett from Montgomery Village, MD.

Colleen was recognized for her leadership accomplishments and impressive academic achievements.  She was named to the National Honor and Maryland Scholar Athlete Societies. She’s able to do this while managing a busy extracurricular schedule including the varsity pom-pom squad, swimming and volleyball teams, and as team captain of the school’s softball team.  Colleen is also a peer mentor and features editor for her school’s newspaper.

Colleen is looking forward to becoming a part of the vibrant (Purdue) Boilermaker student body and staying just as active as she has been at Gaithersburg High School.

The Purdue Club received a dozen outstanding applications for its seventh annual scholarship to incoming freshmen students from the Greater DC area.  Although able to only select two recipients due to limited funds, the Scholarship Committee certainly recognized that Purdue is the beneficiary of some amazingly gifted students!

The Purdue Club of DC Scholarship will be awarded annually to students from the Greater DC area with significant contributions in academic, leadership, extracurricular, and other achievements.  In 2010, the Club will award at least two scholarships to incoming Purdue students of the Greater DC area.
